Hard to Treat Diseases, Inc. (HTDS) recently carried out an extensive research for the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) chamber study was undertaken by the Slavica BioChem division of HTDS and it revealed positive outcomes for TBI treatment. The results of this research were presented at the 8th World Congress on Brain Injury

which took place in March 2010 and was held in Washington DC by the International Brain Injury Association. Medical professionals, social workers, psychologists, scientists and therapists from different regions of the world attended and participated enthusiastically in this global event.

Dr. Sanja Pekovic, head scientist at HTDS, said that the World Congress was a very good occasion to present the results of the hyperbaric oxygen chamber tests conducted on animals on a trial basis for the treatment of brain injuries. During the research work, rats were used in order to carry out the experimental studies, whereas the hyperbaric oxygen chambers were the same chambers that are used for humans. The research was conducted by Slavica Biochem along with researchers from Hyperbaric Medical Center.

According to the previous experiments, frequent treatment with HBO lessened the effects of brain injury because HBO reduces the advance of neuronal injury. The findings of the recent study revealed many more benefits of the treatment and added new information to the results of the previous experiments. The HBO treatment is beneficial on inflammatory processes and glial scarring after traumatic brain injuries. The research team led by Dr. Pekovic found that the HBO treatment on rats reduced the inflammation in their brains. These outcomes indicate that this treatment can be extended to human beings so that it can help TBI patients to recover from brain injuries. The HBO treatment for brain injured patients appears to be promising.
