The National Institute of Health (NIH) is funding a research for testing the hormone progerstone for its ability to treat mild to severe traumatic brain injuries. Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is all set to be a part of this research study which can prove to be beneficial for head injury patients. In the recent times, many cases of concussions have been reported as a result of serious head injuries in children as well as adults during accidents, violence and sports such as hockey, football, skiing. There has been a growing concern regarding concussions and due to the awareness created, people have started following preventive measures to avoid head injuries.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released a statistics report about traumatic brain injury in the United States. The statistics explain for themselves that traumatic brain injury is a nationwide health epidemic spreading and increasing every year.

The report mentioned that around 1.7 million people in United States are suffering from traumatic brain injury every year.
